 The Nurse’s Prayer

As I reach forth my hands
To the sick and to the poor,
Use me, Lord, to dry a tear,
Eyes to smile once more.

Oh, make me now so careful
With the weak and with the slow.
Help me to remember, Lord,
For strength, where we must go.

Then give me a tender heart,
So that I may do my best
To ease the pain of some dear soul,
While You, Lord, give the rest.

And since I am but human,
I need You to keep me kind
To teach this ear to listen
To that tired and troubled mind.

Guide me with each patient, Lord,
And put love in what I do;
That those I tend to, laid aside,
Might know the touch of You!
